On September 11, 2023, Rural Physicians Group partnered with Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield, MO providing 24/7 in-hospital coverage by highly trained Internal Medicine or Family Practice physicians. Our hospitalists provide immediate responsiveness to both patients and nursing staff within acute, critical, and swing bed units.
Immediately, RPG physicians began documenting directly into the electronic medical record instead of the historical telephone transcription with a turn-around time of 24-48 hours. We are fully committed to computerized provider order entry (CPOE) and rapidly reversed the trend for majority verbal orders.
Our dedicated core group of physicians worked with the ED to provide standardized admission order sets. These orders can be immediately started when a diagnosis is confirmed and continued on the patient units. This collaboration has improved the speed at which patients receive excellence in medical care in Pershing Memorial.
Another aspect that showed a marked improvement is the efficiency of the multidisciplinary rounding (MDR) process. Before RPG, the morning MDR took hours and was described as uncoordinated rambling. Our physicians take charge providing a structured meeting with a specific logical order of presentations by team members. This creates a clear and complete plan of stay for each patient and prepares them for a safe transition after discharge.
